Clean-up ahead for Devil’s Fork and Jocassee

Volunteers are being recruited now to join a one-day clean-up of both Devil’s Fork State Park and the shoreline of Lake Jocassee. The 8th Annual Friends of Jocassee VIP Cleanup Day takes place 9 o’clock Saturday morning, September 8. Ken Sloan of Visit Oconee, a friend of Jocassee, says VIP stands for Volunteer, Improve, and Preserve. They need all lovers of the park and lake to volunteer. That includes kayakers, divers, boaters, fishermen, campers, and hikers. Those who register get free park admission and the satisfaction of knowing you have helped. Lake Jocassee is considered, perhaps, the prettiest lake in the Southeast. Sadly, however, according to Sloan, that doesn’t stop people from throwing things into the lake. Some of the litter is accidental.
