Chris Carter bows out in Westminster

After nearly three and a half years, Chris Carter has called it quits in Westminster. After a closed-door meeting, the city council accepted Carter’s resignation, effective May 8. One councilman told reporters that Carter’s decision is personal and has to do with his desire to be closer to family in North Carolina. Mayor Pro-tem Rusty Cater said under the terms of Carter’s contract, he gave the city the required advance notice. The mayor pro-tem quoted Carter as promising to stay if there are un-resolved city issues requiring his presence. Carter’s resignation was only one part of an unusual special meeting that also addressed, without resolution, the renewed controversy over Mayor Brian Ramey’s private cabin that sits on city property alongside the Chauga River.
