Central drug defendant admits guilt

A 38-year old man from the Pickens County town of Central pleaded guilty this week in federal court to the charge of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine.  U-S District Judge Tim Cain accepted the plea offered by David Lee Cook and will impose sentence once he reviews a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the U-S Probation Office.  According to an announcement by the U-S Attorney’s Office, law enforcement saw someone throw a brown bag from a car window.  Officers retrieved the bag and found methamphetamine.  They pulled the vehicle over and Cook admitted he threw bags of drugs out the window when he saw the officer’s vehicle.  According to U-S Attorney Beth Drake, the maximum penalty possible is 40 years in prison and a fine of $5 million.  The case was investigated by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
