In high school volleyball on Wednesday, the Seneca Lady Bobcats defeated West-Oak in Western AAA play in five sets by scores of 25-22, 25-27, 25-27, 25-22 and 15-10. Elsewhere, it took Daniel three sets to beat Walhalla by scores of 25-21, 25-15 and 25-14. Up next, Seneca will host Daniel on Monday, while Walhalla will host West-Oak.

Kris Medlen pitched eight innings of four-hit ball and the Atlanta Braves won his start for the 21st straight time, beating the Miami Marlins 3-0 on Wednesday night. The Braves are off today before heading to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies Friday night at 7:00 PM.

South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier says Connor Shaw will start at quarterback Saturday afternoon when the Gamecocks return to SEC Eastern play against Missouri at Williams-Brice Stadium. Spurrier said Shaw threw well in Monday’s practice and is showing no effects from the injury to his throwning shoulder.  Kick-off Saturday is set for 3:30 PM.

Jose Reyes hit a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning Tuesday night, and the Miami Marlins overcame an awful ninth inning to snap the Atlanta Braves’ four-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory.
