Jobless claims on the rise!

Jobless claims increased in June in both Oconee County and South Carolina. The statewide increase was reported slight by the Department of Employment and Workforce. Oconee County, however, saw a full one percentage point increase in the numbers of those filing new claims. The Oconee rate rose from 8.3% in May to 9.3% in June. Crash fatal to motorcycle passenger

A Pickens County crash took the life yesterday of a motorcycle passenger. Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the deceased as a 30-year old Six Mile woman, Sylvia Crain. According to the coroner, Crain was not wearing a helmet. Home fire in the Cleveland Community

Fire has broken out in a home in the Cleveland Community near the Georgia line. Rural Fire Control reports “a working fire” at 928 Cleveland Pike Road. The Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department responded to the first call at 5:05 this morning. Several other fire stations are providing aid, including at least one from nearby Stephens County, Georgia.
