The Clemson University community mourns the death of Lawrence Marion Gressette Jr., an emeritus trustee from Columbia. Gressette in 1995 became the 13th chairman of the board. His death prompted David Wilkins, the current chairman, to open Friday’s meeting with the death announcement. The board observed a moment of silent prayer.

Youngsters perish in Pickens County fire

The coroner in Pickens County reports two children dead in a Sunday morning home fire at Easley. Coroner Kandy Kelley says the deaths of four-year old Devin Dewayne Graham and seven-year old Timothy Lee Graham occurred at 4:35 a-m yesterday at 145 Daisy Lane. The deaths are being investigated by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office. Autopsies are scheduled today.
