Duncan votes to cut food stamps

Congressman Jeff Duncan voted with the majority to cut $4 billion from food stamps. The bill that will have state enact new work requirements for many recipients passed by seven votes. It’s considered a victory for conservatives, such as South Carolina’s Third District Republican Congressman, but a defeat for Democrats who united in opposing the cut.

Westminster’s W-P Anderson Park will be the setting tomorrow for the kickoff to the 2013 Oconee United Way Campaign. The United Way’s LaShauna Harrison says the event will also dedicate Oconee County’s first Born Learning Trail. The events begin at 10 in the morning at the park on W. Meth bust the result of Seneca traffic stop

A late night traffic stop Wednesday in Seneca led the police to confiscate crystal methamphetamine, cash, and other items. The police say the driver, Larry Neil Gibson, Jr., 47, of Cottontail Drive, Westminster, was charged with meth trafficking. The Oconee County jobless rate in August remained unchanged at 8.8%. So did the state’s percentage of 8.1% which held for both July and August.
