At miday, the South Carolina DOT reported a temperature range in Oconee and the rest of the Upstate of between 32 and 36 degrees.  And above all, according to the DOT:  “Precipitation has ended.”  But icy patches on some roads that have yet to dry may make travel hazardous.  Be careful!

Oconee County has opened a “warming shelter” for those who need a warm-up.  The shelter is located inside the Walhalla Rescue Squad building at 314 S. Church Street in Walhalla and is open until 7 tonight.

By 11:30 this morning, Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative counted 8,542 customers without service in Oconee, Anderson, Pickens, and Greenville counties. Oconee Blue Ridge customers without power numbered 2,860. There were 3,649 outages in Pickens County. The outages include six backbone feeder lines. A decision whether Oconee public schools will be delayed or closed tomorrow (Wednesday) won’t be made until at least after 5 p-m today—or, perhaps, not until early tomorrow morning. District administrator Steve Hanvey says the plan is for personnel “to ride the roads) between 4 and 5 this afternoon and again early tomorrow morning.
