Fire death in Pickens

A fire death is reported in the City of Pickens.  The county coroner, Kandy Kelley, says the body of Kathleen Bagwell was found during the noon hour Tuesday at the back of her home at 314 Ann Street.  She was 81 years old.  The city and state police are investigating.

Walhalla approaches a water plant deal

Walhalla City Council gave first reading last night to a contract with the company Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood for the design, for the permitting, and for the construction administration for the city’s next water treatment plant.  No figures were given prior to the preliminary vote.  City Administrator Nancy Goehle says the city attorney, Julian Stoudemire, has reviewed the contract.
