“Finish the Trail” funding for Oconee and Pickens

Two new sections of the Palmetto Trail in the Upstate are recommended for funding through the Recreational Trails Program. Tractor-trailer truck fire near I-85

At mid day, a tractor-trailer truck sits on an off-ramp on I-85 in Oconee County awaiting a tow truck, having been disabled by fire.  Battalion Chief Ryan Eubanks of county Emergency Services says overheated brakes caused a tire fire on a truck hauling roofing supplies north from Atlanta.  The scene was an off-ramp at Exit 4.  No one was hurt.

Widespread power outages

We have word this morning of widespread power outages affecting parts of Oconee County.  Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative customers reported they lost service during a night of lightning and strong wind affecting Fair Play, Crossroads, and Mountain Rest.  The Walhalla Fire Department responded to trees on power lines on the Picket Post Road and the Stribling Shoals Road.
