Thursday, November 24–Thanksgiving Day–will force Walhalla to change its sanitation pick ups.  For those Walhalla customers whose pickup day is Thursday, their day is being switched next week to Wednesday, November 23.

Some people apparently aren’t getting the message that in this drought there is a ban against burning.  Walhalla Fire Department late yesterday afternoon attended to a small but illegal controlled burn on Hope Drive near the C. Ritter Road, according to Fire Chief Doug Kelley.

Public safety responders responding to a car accident at 3:30 this morning in Walhalla found an overturned Ford automobile, but no occupants or driver.  The accident scene was E. S. Boundary Street.

South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a vehicle accident with a deer shortly after 5:30 this morning on 123/the Toccoa Highway at Weldon Road.

Five Pickens residents were displaced from their burned home yesterday afternoon on Northway Drive.  According to an American Red Cross account, the fire left the home unlivable. Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers assisted four adults and one child. The Pickens Fire Department responded to the blaze.
