Boys Leadership Camp underway in Oconee

Twenty-seven students of an annual boys camp are entering their final two days of fun and instructive activities, as arranged by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office and the Oconee School District.  This is the sixth annual such camp and today and tomorrow the kids can look forward to zip lining in Long Creek, wiffle ball, team  building skills–all of which are to be followed by an awards ceremony tomorrow afternoon at Walhalla Middle School.  Activities earlier this week included gun safety, the firing of pellet rifles, fishing and hiking at Station Cove Falls, and hike to the Chattooga River and the teaching of survival skills.  In spite of the pandemic, both the sheriff’s office and the public schools felt it was important to run the camp, considering what the children have had to endure the past three months.
