Beasley and Barrett can derive satisfaction today

The large humanitarian program with which former Governor Beasley and former U-S Rep. Barrett are associated was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize today.  The program is the World Food Program, headquartered in Rome and as a branch of the United Nations. Former Governor David Beasley directs the program; one of his top lieutenants is Gresham Barrett, the former Westminster businessman, former Oconee state lawmaker, former U-S representative from the 3rd Congressional District.  The WFP helps people who can’t produce or obtain enough food for themselves and their families.  Sounding his congratulations was the U-S Senator Lindsey Graham who said, “Because of David’s leadership, we have increased funding and millions of people suffering from war, famine, and now a worldwide pandemic, are being fed.”  Before joining Beasley’s organization, Barrett enjoyed a lengthy political year which ended in 2010 when he lost a governor’s primary election to the eventual winner, Nikki Haley.  It was after that that Barrett found a new calling:  helping the less fortunate. Adding his congrats, too, was current U-S Rep. Jeff Duncan, Barrett’s successor in Washington.  “This award is well deserved, and you have made South Carolina proud!”, said Duncan.
