The Pickens County coroner says the victim of Sunday night’s homicide near Liberty was a 31-year old Piedmont resident.  Coroner Kelley identifies the victim of a gunshot as Steven Wayne Neese.  The incident at an address on Stewart Gin Road, Liberty is under investigation by the county sheriff’s office.

The expectation at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport this week is for the arrival and departure of between 40 and 50 thousand air passengers.  The GSP spokeswoman says the air last month saw about 87% of its 2019 passenger traffic, and she said, “We expect the recovery to continue.”

A Clemson COVID test location–the one at Nettles Park–closes this week for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.  The test location will be closed from Thursday, December 23 through Sunday, January 2.  For an alternative test location, visit SC DHEC’s COVID-19 testing sites.

One vehicle overturned last night in a highway 28 accident reported in front of the Walhalla Zaxby’s.  Late yesterday afternoon motorists on 123, the Seneca-Clemson corridor, made their way past a rollover accident on 123 and Corinth Drive.  An overturned vehicle appeared to be wedged against a steep embankment on the Seneca bound side of the four-lane highway.

In a rollout to a church near Walhalla, fire fighters discovered smoke inside Cornerstone Cathedral, highway 28, and resolved the problem by unplugging a speaker and clearing the smoke from the building.  No one hurt.

A West Union home, not far from Anderson Street, has won the grand prize in the judging of that town’s Christmas decorations.  Nalleli Rodriguez Cruz wins a $50 dollar credit card gift.  According to Mayor Linda Oliver, the judges likely were impressed by the Christmas lights at 102 Eastpointe Drive that included a lighted carousel.

CDC now estimates the highly transmissible Omicron variant is the dominant variant in the U-S representing 73% of cases.  In some parts of the country representing over 90% of cases.  A shudder went through the Clemson University community when it when the university announced 10 confirmed cases of the new variant.
