A Sunday afternoon fire near West Union destroyed an empty barn. Assistant Chief Jess Neville of the West Union Volunteer Fire Department said the fire occurred near Cook Lane in the Poplar Springs Community. Neville said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Today at noon is the deadline for residents of Districts Two, Four and Five in Oconee to qualify for the non-partisan contest for seats this year on the county school board. At last report, only the incumbents had filed. Voters decide in November.
