Oconee County is targeting a date to “light up” FOCUS–the project to bring high-speed broadband service countywide. Paul Corbeil, District One county councilman, says the projected date is four months away–Friday, March 15, 2013. The county’s public schools are already beginning to switch to the service, according to Dr. Mike Lucas, county superintendent.

This just in….A 60-year old resident of Fowood Hills near Westminster was this morning’s traffic fatality on S.C. 11. Coroner Karl Addis said Guy Arvid Nelson died in the accident involving his pickup truck and other vehicles shortly after 6:30 a-m at S.C. 11 and Bruce Road.

A new finance director has gone to work for Oconee County government. Mark Pulliam, a former finance director for the University of Montana, began work as Oconee finance director a couple of weeks ago. He’ll be paid $80 thousand a year.

State troopers report one person killed this morning in what apparently was a four-vehicle accident on S.C. 11 at Bruce Road. At least two people were reportedly severely hurt, requiring one of them to be flown by helicopter to the Greenville Memorial Hospital. We’re getting word of a serious accident this morning in Oconee County. State troopers report injuries in the crash at 11253 S.C. 11 and Deer Run Road, near the Bruce Road.

The booking report overnight from Oconee Detention Center is full of the names and the charges of those who, so far, have been swept up in what the Seneca police call one of the largest illegal drug enforcement efforts in their city. The police have 102 warrants charging 57 people and are getting help from other law enforcement agencies.

Two barrels containing human remains been discovered in Lake Hartwell in Anderson County. An autopsy is planned this morning on the remains found in the second barrel, near Centerville and Sandy Springs roads.
