Vehicles flip on I-85

The affected stretch of I-85 in Oconee County is back to normal after yesterday afternoon’s traffic crash. Multiple vehicles were involved northbound near the S.C. 11 exit. As many as five people required transport to three hospitals. One of the northbound lanes was blocked for about 30 minutes, while the other lane remained closed for about one hour.

Escaped prisoner captured

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Department has announced that one of two escaped prisoners is back in custody today. Detention Center inmate Jonathan Dean Moody was apprehend around noon today in a wooded area, just north of U-S 178, less than one mile from the detention center. A second inmate, Rickylee Smith, remained at large.

A Seneca man has been taken to the hospital after being hit by a car at the Miracle Circle intersection. By the 1 o’clock hour today, the police said, the injuries suffered by Christopher Lathaniel Cunningham were unknown. The Washington state-based parent company of West Union’s Itron manufacturing plant has welcomed a new president/chief executive officer. The elevation up the ladder of Itron’s Philip Mezey was announced during November 19 in a conference call. Mezey played a large role in a program the previous month when Itron leaders came to West Union to celebrate that plant’s 50th anniversary.
