A senior at Walhalla High is Miss Oktoberfest 2012. Ashley Carroll won every category in Saturday night’s pageant, produced and directed by G-C Pageants. Winning class attendant titles were freshman Bonnie-Ann Duke of West-Oak; sophomore Rebecca Kennedy of Tamassee-Salem; junior Molly Saxon of Walhalla; and senior Ashley Strickland of West-Oak. Walhalla’s Mackenzie Long was crowed Miss Photogenic.

A term of Oconee Common Pleas Court takes place this week in Walhalla. First case docketed for trial is a motor vehicle lawsuit between Karen Jane Gomez and Chic Fil A Inc. and others. Judge Lawton McIntosh presides.

Oconee School District has confirmed that a man arrested by the sheriff’s department in a case of alleged sex crimes worked in the district as late as eight years ago. An Oconee man instrumental in organizing the county’s first scenic highway committee will serve in a similar capacity at a statewide level. Governor Nikki Haley last summer appointed J-Harold Thomas, a former county councilman, to the S.C. Scenic Highway Committee. Thomas last night said he’s still awaits attending his first meeting.
