Denise McCormick of Westminster became the first today to enter this year’s race for the Oconee School Board.  An incumbent, McCormick serves as the board chair.  She represents District Four.

The plaintiffs in South Carolina Public Interest Foundation and others have won a temporary injunction against Oconee County.  Judge McIntosh’s ruling today further orders that the dispute needs to be extradited for trial.  As the judge sees it, the Oconee $25 million bond issue is not about the selling of the bonds, but rather the use of the bond money.  […]

A qualifying period to run this year for three of the five Oconee school board seats opened at 8 o’clock this morning.  There were no immediate filers.  Available in the November General Election are board seats 2,3, and 5.  It’s a non-partisan election.

One person has been taken by EMS to the hospital for injuries in a Walhalla accident this morning.  The police describe what happened on E. Main Street just before 7 this morning as a side swipe/head-on crash involving a van and an SUV.

At their meeting today, Walhalla Rotarians are requested by their president, Stephen Graves, to bring supplies needed by the first-grade teachers at James Brown Elementary School.  Classes for the new year start Thursday, and James Brown first-grade teachers need black markers, crayons, #2 pencils with erasers, and pairs of scissors child size.

At least four community meetings are in the planning stages of the Corinth-Shiloh Fire Department to help explain and muster support for its referendum in November.  As part of the General Election, the question of accepting higher property taxes to create a 24/7 paid fire station will be a referendum to be decided by Oconee County voters inside the Corinth-Shiloh […]

U-S 123 at Carson Road near Seneca remained a traffic accident scene this morning.  Authorities were alerted just before 2 this morning.  101.7/WGOG NEWS has learned that one person was air flighted to Greenville; two others were sent there by ground transportation.  As late as 5:30 this morning, eastbound 123 traffic was diverted onto Carson Road.
