Autopsies point to smoke inhalation

The coroner’s autopsies found smoke inhalation to be the cause for three deaths at two separate fire scenes Sunday night in Oconee County.  Coroner Addis has classified the deaths of Mark Anthony Land near Seneca and Alfonso Contreras and “Charlie” Lee Brooks near Walhalla as accidental.  Addis says dental records positively identified Brooks and Contreras.

Car runs into Walhalla store

According to one Walhalla public safety responder, it’s believed a driver’s foot was applied too heavily to the gas pedal and the result last evening was a car hitting a Latino food store. The accident was logged in shortly before 7 o’clock on College Street, between Main and S. Broad.  No injuries reported, nor was there much damage reported.
