Aftermath of the re-zoning hearing cancellation

Questions and reactions to the postponement this week of a hearing to consider a proposed home development on Walhalla’s Tyre B. Mauldin Street. From his seat at the council meeting table, David Underwood asked why the hearing had been called off. The councilman took the position that it was a public hearing that should have taken place. He was told by Mayor Edwards and City Administrator Taylor that the decision to postpone the hearing was that of the developers who plan to make changes to their application for a planned unit development. And Councilman Bagwell told Underwood that a first attempt to hear the application in July was cancelled because of the city’s fault—the failure that night to achieve a quorum of planning commissioners. An opponent of the project, Keith Pace, complained to the mayor and council that an information meeting sponsored last week by the developers was attended by three planning commissioners.
