A new set of traffic lights on 123?

In the Millbrook subdivision the thought has arisen whether construction of a new car dealership across the highway could justify the state adding a new set of traffic lights along 123—the Seneca-Clemson corridor.  And an overture to the state senator has resulted in Thomas Alexander asking for a DOT study on whether 123 at Millbrook Way would qualify for traffic lights to tie in with an entrance way into the new Lake Keowee Ford dealership.  For vehicles crossing 123 from the subdivision and turning left, a hilly section of roadway creates sight problems for drivers.  There have been close calls to avoid accidents.  Those concerns aside, however, a county planner sees traffic lights an advantage in moving traffic crossing a four-lane highway.  But Adam Chapman says DOT planners have more to consider, including whether more traffic lights help to calm, or lower the speed, of traffic.  Within the last year, the DOT installed lights nearby on 123 at Jacobs Road.  Those lights, however, were seen necessary to allow traffic coming out of student housing projects to make left turns toward Clemson University.
