A mobile, skilled trade effort just what’s needed–McKee

A Carolinas’ organization of contractors and others in construction-related fields says state funding soon will allow for an 18-wheeler that will serve as a mobile, skilled trades workshop. And that’s just what Carolinas AGC says is needed to showcase skilled trades at schools, football games, and fairs. “When high schools stopped having dedicated shop classes, the exposure to hands-on skilled trades stopped as well,” said Leslie Clark, Director of Government Relations and Divisions for Carolinas AGC. “The construction industry has reached a critical stage of workers and we hope the Be Pro Be Proud truck, as well as the programs we are pushing through our Building Your Career program, will help us begin to address that shortage.” Marty McKee of King Asphalt in Liberty agrees. McKee gives credit to Senator Thomas Alexander of Oconee-Pickens for helping secure funding to help get word out to students, parents and teachers about the opportunities that exist in several skilled trade professions.
