A $12.3M project, the new emergency department

A new emergency department at the Oconee Memorial Hospital will be a project that’ll spend in excess of $12 million and take two years to complete. Hunter Kome, chief operating officer of the Oconee Medical Campus of GHS, said last night two design meetings have been held and they will lead to blueprints for an emergency department that’ll feature 22 new patient rooms and a component to “fast-track” true emergency patients. Kome told a meeting of the hospital Holdings Board that Greenville Health System has approved the project. GHS is putting money into the project, but Oconee Memorial’s Cortni Nation said the local hospital foundation will raise money in support. To accommodate the emergency department expansion some parking and green space will be lost.
