WOODY WYATT

Westminster– Cecil Woodrow “Woody” Wyatt, Jr, 81, husband of Lura Joan Ellenburg Wyatt, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Prisma Health – Oconee Memorial Hospital.

A native of Yancey County and a long-term resident of Henderson County, Woody worked many years for Dupont and Sterling before retiring to Oconee County in 1998.

Surviving Woody is the love of his life, his loving wife of 64 years, Lura Ellenburg Wyatt; three daughters and one son, Lisa Wyatt Banks (Terry), Brian Keith Wyatt (Colleen), Nicole Wyatt all of Hendersonville, and Stephanie Wyatt of Brevard; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.  Also, surviving are one brother, Dwight Wyatt of Fairview, NC., three sisters, Sara Edney of Edneyville, NC, Sharon Boyd of Fairview, NC, Lena Ellenburg of Rutherfordton, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Woody is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Woodrow Wyatt, Sr. and Ruby Jo Wyatt; brother, Donald Lee Wyatt and his sister, Barbara Jones.

Woody was an incredible woodworker and builder.  If he wasn’t building furniture for one of his children, he was heading up Saint Mark United Relief Force (SMURF) building and repairing homes for those in need.

In his downtime, if you could ever call it that with how little he sat still, Woody loved to be outdoors.   Whether in the woods or on the deck above the lake, he was often watching the animals.  If you need to know the heart and soul of a man, simply watch how animals respond to him.  It was not unusual for critters to come right up to him, and he always greeted them with a snack.

Throughout his life, Woody adored music.  Playing guitar and singing was a favorite pastime, solo or alongside family and friends.  His music was enjoyable for him, but a true gift to those who loved him.

Woody was known for his dry wit, best practiced with his beloved sisters-in-law.  He was a man with a quiet, unsuspecting humor that could catch you in the best of times.  His love for laughter lives on in his children and grandchildren, some of whom have mastered that well-loved wit and charm.

Woody lived a full and beautiful life, surrounded by beloved family and friends.  His influence and boundless love ripple through generations.  He was an exceptional example of a life well-lived.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, January 23, 2023, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Seneca, SC with burial to follow at 3:15 pm at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hendersonville, NC.  The family will receive friends and family from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Seneca, SC.
