I-26 widening is one thing, but what about 85?
Governor Henry McMaster recommends South Carolina allocate $360 million dollars of American Rescue Plan money to complete the widening of Interstate-26 between Columbia and Charleston. In the governor’s words, this investment would accelerate a high priority project on one of the state’s most-traveled interstates by at least six years. The governor’s new spending recommendations say nothing about I-85, in particular the stretch from Georgia through Oconee County’s four-mile stretch of the highway. Asked about that, Thomas Alexander, Oconee-Pickens senator, said 85 will be a later project. But it’s one that’ll require some patience waiting for. Alexander’s comments about 85, include the new bridge work that’ll be required, are being aired today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.
