PMPA would not seat Danny Duncan

Danny Duncan of Westminster spent his working career in the field of electric power service.  But his career with the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative makes him ineligible to represent his city on the board of PMPA—the Piedmont Municipal Power Authority. Westminster is a member city of PMPA, from which it receives its wholesale supply of electricity. Councilman Duncan had been chosen as Westminster’s alternate PMPA board member.  However, according to Mayor Brian Ramey, PMPA balked at allowing Duncan to take the seat, citing a policy that forbids individuals with electric cooperative backgrounds to serve on the board of the upstate municipality power consortium.  So, last night, in a Westminster City Council vote, Councilman Brad Chastain was named Duncan’s replacement.
