A successful, yet a disrupted school year
The superintendent of Oconee public schools, Dr. Michael Thorsland, is sensing that the district has begun to move from strict COVID-19 protocols to a return to its top priority of providing the best education possible to its students. In a report last night to the trustees, Thorsland said it has been a successful year, although a year disrupted by the scourge of the virus. Apart from one grade closing and a few classroom closings, the duty of education has proceeded without any school closings with a majority of students choosing face to face instruction. Thorsland holds out hope that the start of next year following summer recess will be the start of a more normal school year. He announced that the district has begun to concentrate on required end-of-year testing and May 29 graduation ceremonies for the seniors of the three high schools.
