Suggestion: move election headquarters near Seneca

The retiring director of Oconee elections believes purposes of the office would be served better if it is able to re-locate closer to the middle of  the county.  Yesterday Joy Scharich led the board of registrations and elections in a discussion of how to acquire more room, with the outcome being that a dialogue is needed with the county council to decide whether to abandon the Pine Street offices for an alternate location.  That new location, as suggested by Scharich, could be space in the Bountyland complex that emptied when the school district opened its new career and technology center on highway 11.  According to Scharich, there’s little reason for the county’s election offices to remain under the same roof as the other Walhalla Pine Street county complex.  The former Hamilton Career Center at Bountyland near Seneca is seen as a location easier to access to county voters in Fair Play and other parts of southern Oconee.
