New Walhalla High pronounced ready

Ten times around the circular walkway above the gymnasium equates to one mile. That’s one of the impressions drawn from the public’s first look yesterday at the new Walhalla High School. The spacious hallway inside the main entrance came in handy for the large crowd that turned out for the ribbon cutting and open house. And from the hallway all you had to do was walk straight behind a stairwell to find the cafeteria or turn in each direction to find the gym or the auditorium. This was a proud day for Oconee school officials who started to plan for the new high school more than five years ago. Except for some general clean up and some additional furniture moving, the new $54 million high school was pronounced ready for the start of the next school year, August 17.
