Tax abatement ruled out for West Union prospect

There’s a prospect to fill up space in an empty section of a West Union shopping center, but the town has ruled out tax abatement for the business. According to Mayor Linda Oliver, the town council this week considered the prospect’s request to abate property taxes for up to five years. But Oliver said the town was told by County Administrator Scott Moulder that such abatement would not be legal. Even without the tax break, according to Oliver, the prospect is free to locate in space adjoining Save-A-Lot food store.
