Precautions in advance of a 14-degree morning

Although tomorrow is forecast as a 14-degree morning, the plan is for Oconee public schools to run on regular time. Yet, in advance of this major drop in temperatures, the public schools are taking precautions starting today. Steve Hanvey, assistant superintendent for operations, says those precautions include having maintenance personnel to report to schools by 6:30 tomorrow morning to try to ensure that there is water and that all heating units are working properly. The district is instructing all bus drivers to crank their buses earlier than normal to help ensure the buses warm up properly. Bus riders, where possible, should stay inside their homes until close to the last moment before the buses pull up. And this no-brainer tip for tomorrow: bundle up. It’s a good idea to layer your clothing.
