Michael Berardo

Westminster – Michael Angelo Berardo, 75, husband of Suzanne Shaw Berardo, passed away Monday, August 12, 2024, at Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

I am sad to share that Mike’s 4-year battle with kidney cancer has ended.  As stubborn as he was, it was a stacked deck against him that he could not beat, but we all know that he tried.

There is a big hole in my heart as he was my rock, my partner, confidante, Chef, and could always make me laugh! He was a loving husband and father.

Michael is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Suzanne Shaw Berardo; son, Michael Adam Berardo (Tawny Allen), of San Francisco, California; daughter, Jennifer L. Burgess (Robbie) Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and a grandson, Robert Zachary “Zach” Burgess.

We moved to Chickasaw Point in 2017, and right away he was involved in the many clubs and activities. Michael was VP of the Men’s Club for many years, was on the Marina board,

he managed monthly brunches before The Overlook, headed many committees, and enjoyed golfing. While on the Men’s Club board, he initiated the Men’s Club Scholarship Fund for deserving seniors. Before his passing the Men’s Club informed him that the Scholarship Fund would now be known as the Mike Berardo Chickasaw Point Men’s Club Scholarship.  What a legacy he is leaving behind!

His life was a celebration of the simple joys: a good laugh over a better meal, especially if eggplant parmesan was involved, ball breaking with friends, and sharing stories that always left his audience in stitches.  His Italian-American heritage was a source of pride, and his tales of travel and family were legendary. He was a man who lived fully and loved fiercely, always surrounded by friends and family who cherished his company and his knack for making any gathering livelier. Whether it was a family dinner, cocktails on the porch or an event at The Overlook, his presence was the spark that lit up the room.

True to his unique style Mike opted out of a traditional funeral. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date, where stories will be shared, laughter will abound, and the spirit of Mike Berardo will be celebrated just as he lived — joyfully and surrounded by those he loved.
