Evelyn Miller

Seneca, South Carolina

Evelyn Miller passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Cottingham Hospice House on Friday, August 25th, after a brief but valiant battle with Cholangiocarcinoma (a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer).

Evelyn was born in Seneca, SC, and was a lifelong resident of Oconee County. Evelyn was the 3rd of six children of Simeon and Ola Mae Nix. She graduated from the DAR School in Tamassee, where her mother, children, and several grandchildren also attended.

Evelyn is survived and loved by her four daughters, Pam Duncan, Micky Ward (Tom), Rhonda Smith (Frank), and Kathy Radford (Chris), her siblings Dot Barrett, Bill Nix, and Ann Moore, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn was “Mama” and “Granny” to many others who will miss and fondly remember her.

A dedicated sister, mother, and wife, Evelyn was predeceased by her first husband, Bill Rogers, her second husband, AB Miller, and her brothers, Ron and Don Nix.

Evelyn was a strong woman who worked for many decades in textile and other manufacturing facilities throughout Oconee County.  No job was beneath her, and she did whatever was necessary to support her family. Even after retirement, she was well known for making pound cakes that she would deliver to her “Boys at Koyo.” Hardworking to the end, Evelyn rounded out her working years in her 80s in the kitchen at Belvedere Commons, where she made many friends and would often return to enjoy their company and join them for bingo.

Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family above everything else, even though she playfully acted like she didn’t most of the time. She had a lively and competitive spirit, which showed up in some of her favorite pastimes of fishing, bowling, cornhole, and of course, bingo.

In lieu of flowers, Evelyn’s family respectfully requests donations be made in her name to Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, whose incredible staff gave Evelyn and her family peace and dignity to the very end.

An informal celebration of life will be held in Evelyn’s honor on Saturday, September 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. at Biggerstaff Retreat Center on Lake Keowee. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and join for refreshments and games of cornhole.
