One lane of I-85 northbound re-opens

By 10 this morning, I-85 traffic in Oconee was able to move northbound while public safety responders worked to clear the debris from a tractor-trailer truck fire in the vicinity of the one mile marker.  No one was reported hurt when the fire occurred this morning during the 5 o’clock hour.  Because the big truck was full of Michelin tires, according to Chief Wilkerson of the Fair Play Fire Department, it became necessary to apply both water and foam to stop the burning tires.  Although Americans have been encouraged to stay home, this federal interstate is seeing a fairly large volume of traffic considering the pandemic virus.  And there have been no shortage of curiosity seekers stopping to watch the scene and, in some instance, taking videos of what they see.  That, according to Larry Wilkerson, has led to some near miss-accidents.
