Worksite believed to be spot for a new Dollar General

Dollar General stores appear to be everywhere, so why not a remote part of 123 headed west from Westminster?  Work was underway on 123/the Toccoa Highway near Pickens Road this morning at what’s thought to be a new Dollar General.  A Facebook entry suggests the store could be the start of a re-birth of what became a lonely stretch of highway, after the I-85 highway was built in the mid-20th century.  Before the interstate, 123 between Westminster and Georgia was a main travel route between Greenville and Atlanta.  Westminster Mayor Brian Ramey says, “The local are talking about it” (a new Dollar General).  According to the Main Street Westminster Facebook page, the Dollar General would be the first new business between the city and Madison community in more than 20 years.
