Why Gantt’s impact is a Clemson legacy

January marks the 60th anniversary of integration at Clemson University.  The School of Architecture announces “Legacy:  Celebrating the Impact of Harvey Gantt”.  His enrollment into the architecture program in 1963 was historic, as he became the first African American student to attend Clemson after the 4th Court of Appeals ordered the university to admit him.  On Gantt’s enrollment day one WGOG, an AM station at the time, joined other media, including members of the national news media, for the historic event.  This new Clemson Legacy program runs through February 14 at Lee Hall, where artists, students and faculty host an exhibition in Lee Gallery, with works chosen for a juried show.  The works document the historic circumstances and significant events that occurred in and around Clemson related to integration.
