CORRECTION: Seneca Man’s Death Under Investigation

A Seneca man is dead following a mobile home fire. Oconee County Fire Departments responded to a reported home fire on Wednesday afternoon at 339 Armstrong Road, near Seneca. After extinguishing the fire, the body of a 36 year-old man was discovered in a bedroom of the home. The man was the owner of the home. The death is under investigation by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Department and the Oconee County Coroner’s Office. The State Law Enforcement Division and investigators with the Oconee County Fire Department are working to determine the origin of the fire.  According to Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis, based on the evidence found at the scene, the death appears to be due to a self-destructive event. The preliminary investigation and exam of the deceased indicates he died from a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy will be performed to assist with the death investigation.The manner of death remains pending further investigation.  Corner Addis says there is no threat to the community. The coroner is attempting to contact additional family members, and the name of the decedent will be released later.
