Water service upgrades by Westminster
A new water storage tank is to strengthen Westminster water service to U-S 76 , the Long Creek Highway, and north of and including the Coffee Road. The city announces the award by the state of a $594 thousand grant. The grant requires a local supplement of nearly $279 thousand. A new tank, to be three times larger than the existing one – is to be built at the same location. Once in service Westminster envisions stronger water reliability, resiliency, and storage capacity for 384 homes and 922 community residents. Westminster’s Long Creek service territory has been beset in the past by limited storage capacity, frequent pressure problems, and boil advisories. The funding mechanism is a state (RIA) Rural Infrastructure Grant. Among others, Westminster extends its appreciation to Oconee’s three-member state delegation, especially Senator Alexander.
