Walhalla sets “listening” meeting for “box” stores

City of Walhalla officials are making good on their promise to devote time to hear comment on whether their city makes room for box or discount stores.  The listening session on the six-month moratorium will take place at 6:30 Monday night, May 17 in the civic auditorium, the Walhalla Performing Arts Center.  In attendance will be the members of the city council and the planning commission.  The event will start with a presentation of the current zoning law, followed by a presentation from the Main Street Board.  The box and discount store issue arose this year when the city council enacted a moratorium that, in effect, stopped the Dollar General chain from pursuing a store on Main Street.  Closer to the May 17th listening session, a formal agenda will be published.  COVID-19 protocols are to be followed at the meeting to include social distancing and the wearing of face masks.
