Walhalla scraps mandatory mask law

If you are out and about in Walhalla and without face covering, you no longer need worry about a $25 dollar citation.  Walhalla’s leaders last night did away with their controversial mask requirements and, instead substituted, a resolution that encourages everyone to wear a mask as a protection from catching or spreading the virus.  The city council rescinded the mask ordinance on a vote of 5 to 2.  Opposed were council members Woodward and Melendez.  The mayor and council took the past two weeks to feel the pulse of the city and last night listened as five of six public comment speakers called for doing away with the law.  Three of those speakers were business people who reported sharp drops in their customers.
