Walhalla relaxes some water service policies

Walhalla’s David Underwood will step away from city government when his city council term expires at the end of the year. Underwood left last night’s meeting with some satisfaction that he will have helped instigate policy changes that will relax the penalties faced by water customers who miss payments, as well as make bill-paying an easier options, especially for those with physical disabilities. The city council voted to drop the water service re-connect fee from $65 to $25 dollars. The city’s elected leaders also called for an analysis to estimate the cost of constructing a drive-thru window to pay bills at City Hall. Councilman Robbie Burrell was the first last night to bring up the idea of opening the City Hall drive-thru thru window in place since the days the building was owned by Duke Power Company. The mayor and council also discussed the idea of giving customers an additional five days to pay monthly water bills.
