Walhalla proposes fix to flood-prone intersection

Walhalla representatives are proposing a permanent fix to an intersection, prone to flood any time it rains hard. And when the rains fall at S. College and ES Broad streets, city workers often are forced to close the intersection and re-route traffic. City Administrator Brent Taylor and outside engineer Corbin Jenkins appeared before the county’s state “C” Fund Committee in hopes the three-member committee will open its checkbooks for a $170 thousand repair job that would. The plan is to install a new storm pipe and re-route it away from a nearby building. The plan also would be to replace existing manholes, according to Jenkins. Committee member Richard Cottingham said he favors the repair project, but before a vote he wants a determination as to who might have legal responsibility.
