Walhalla Football Preview
The Walhalla Razorbacks are ready to turn potential into power on the gridiron for the 2026 South Carolina high school football season. After navigating a rocky, injury-plagued road filled with youthful growing pains last autumn, the Razorbacks are entering year two under head coach Blake Dyar. There is a major sense of optimism in the air around Walhalla High School. With only eight seniors lost to graduation from last year’s squad, a highly experienced and battle-tested core returns to push Walhalla into playoff contention. The Razorbacks’ offense is in capable hands with Dylan Cobb under center. Known for his strong arm and steady poise, Cobb spent the off-season sharpening his pocket presence. Coach Dyar expects him to command the passing game with authority this fall. Darian Simpkins is the explosive weapon that keeps opposing defensive coordinators awake at night. Boasting elite track-level speed, he serves as Cobb’s primary deep threat on offense and anchors the secondary on defense. Essien Nathan provides the physical balance to Walhalla’s air attack. He is a hard-nosed, downhill runner who specializes in picking up tough yards, wearing out opposing defensive lines by the fourth quarter. On the other side of the ball, the defense flows directly through junior linebacker Romeo Mendez. Mendez is a sideline-to-sideline tackler whose high football IQ makes him the clear vocal leader on the field. This season marks the beginning of the South Carolina High School League’s new athletic reclassifications. Walhalla will compete in Class 3A, Region 1, setting up intense local matchups against familiar foes like Berea, Daniel, Pickens, Seneca, and Southside. The Razorbacks will test their mettle early with a demanding three-game road stretch before enjoying the comforts of home.
