Voters’ feedback requested on Clemson election changes

Today’s city of Clemson announcement starts out:  “Due to circumstances at the state level and beyond the City’s control, the City of Clemson’s municipal elections will be moving to odd numbered years.”  And Clemson voters are invited to a public hearing Monday, February 6 to express opinions and concerns.  Clemson concedes that keeping city elections on even-numbered years with the general elections is a possibility, but the municipal election would still be completely separate with the city responsible for the elections, including the costs.  The change to odd-numbered years would mean that the terms of the current council members would have to change.  State law allows for those terms to be either shortened to three years or lengthened to five years.  Besides next week’s hearing, Clemson residents may sound off on this over the MyCivic app or by email to council members.
