Vote anticipating a batch of money

The newest but still fledgling tax authority in Oconee has its first budget.  The commission board for the Corinth-Shiloh special tax district agreed on a $1.2 million projection that’ll allow the volunteer fire station to start hiring full-time personnel once tax revenues come in during the county’s next government year July through June, 2025-26.  By adopting the budget, according to Chairman Dr. Bill Howiler, it can be forwarded to the office of the county administrator so that it arrives timely for County Council to make it part of the overall spending for the next year.  In line with last November’s referendum, the Corinth-Shiloh budget will rely only on tax payments by the homeowners and businesses inside the fire district.  The Corinth-Shiloh commissioners have been in place for only a few months and, evidenced by comments and questions asked at their meeting last night, they are still feeling their way.  The special tax district was compared last night to a “unique child” with, as yet, no money.
