Vickie Satterfield

Seneca, SC — Vickie Lusk Satterfield, 75, of Seneca, South Carolina passed away on September 19,

2024, at The Oaks of Seneca.

Vickie was born on May 15, 1949 in Anderson, South Carolina, the daughter of Hal

Hiott Lusk Sr. and Jennie Ruth Evatt Lusk.

Vickie was graduated from Pendleton High School in 1967 and attended Forrest

College. She married the love of her life, Michael Edward Satterfield in January of 1968.

Missing Mike every day since his death in 2000, she worried that when she arrived in

Heaven, he would still be young while she would look old.

Devoting her entire career to public service, Vickie worked at Walhalla Middle School in

the 1980’s and then moved on to government service. She served as the Downtown

Director for the City of Walhalla and later as the City Administrator. Vickie spent the

latter part of her career as the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Director for Oconee

County. In her retirement, she dabbled in real estate.

Previously serving on the Walhalla Chamber of Commerce and Walhalla Oktoberfest

Committee, Vickie was very active in her local community and was the first female

member of the Walhalla Rotary Club. She went on to become club President and was

honored as a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.

Ever fearless, Vickie particularly enjoyed domestic and international travel, embarking

upon international travel alone and attending the Heavyweight Boxing Championship

solo in Las Vegas, simply because it was on her list. Vickie was an avid Parrot Head

and lover of all things Jimmy Buffett. She attended as many concerts as she could and

always in costume.

Truly, fully, and completely, Vickie was one of those rare people who embodied a

personality that lit up every room she entered. Every day was an adventure. In the

1970’s she sported waist long hair and tie-dye and travelled extensively, driving a

Volkswagen Bug with peace signs on the sides. Everyone she met saw the sparkle in

her blue eyes and was met with the biggest smile. She never met a stranger and would

literally give someone the shirt off her back. She was always up for singing, dancing, a

road trip or some sort of shenanigans. Vickie’s greatest adventure in life was being a

“GaGa”, the name she gave herself that she thought fitting of a hipster Grandma.

Remaining to cherish Vickie’s memory are her daughter: Lindsey Satterfield Simmons;

son-in-law: Michael Todd Simmons; and grandson: Evatt Michael Simmons. Vickie also

leaves behind several first cousins who were like siblings and many other treasured

relatives and friends. She shared many special memories with her dearest friends:

Linda Wilson, Brenda Jenkins, Patsy Winkel, and Sue Carter.

Vickie is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Randy Lusk and Hal Hiott Lusk,

Jr.; and her husband: Michael.

Per Vickie’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Interment will be private. In typical

Vickie fashion, she requested a party to honor her memory in lieu of visitation. A drop-

in celebration of Vickie’s life will be held from 4 to 6 o’clock p.m. on Friday, October 4,

2024 at Crown & Crest, 114 N Walnut St, Seneca, South Carolina.

Heartfelt thanks are extended by Vickie’s family to those who cared for her during her

final days: Interim Home Health, Providence House Calls, and Providence Hospice.

Special thanks are extended to the dedicated and outstanding staff of The Oaks at

Seneca, who loved their “Vickster” just like their own during her final months.

With her trademark wit, smile, and determination, Vickie fought Parkinson’s disease and

gave it everything she had. In the end, she wanted everyone to know that “Parkinson’s

Sucks.”

Vickie always had a passion for helping children and especially never wanted them to

be without at Christmastime. In lieu of flowers, charitable Memorial donations in Vickie’s

memory may be made to Christmas for Kids, a 501(c)(3) organization that ensures

needy Oconee County children receive gifts and essential items at Christmas.

Donations of cash or check in her memory are accepted at The Journal: 210 W. North

1st Street, Seneca, SC 29678, or may be made online at https://cforkids.org./.
