Verbal dispute led to shooting

At a Lake Hartwell beach, a verbal altercation turned violent.  A 19-year-old wounded by gunfire is in the hospital.  By late last night, his condition was unknown to the Oconee Sheriff’s Office.  Information learned by authorities is that around 7:30 last night on a beach area off the Pickens Bend Range Road a group was hanging out and swimming.  Some in the group exchanged words and, at some point, shots were fired.  The wounded 19-year-old was sent by Pickens County EMS to Greenville Prisma.  Oconee Sheriff’s Office believes what happened was an isolated incident and there’s no threat to the public.  Anyone with information on what happened is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 864/638-4111.
