Three Oconee roads added to state’s work list

What are described as “extra funds” ($877 thousand) will be used to improve three state roads in Oconee County. The decision was reached this morning during a meeting of the county’s state “C” committee. That three-member group handles, at times, millions of state “C” fund monies that are designated for South Carolina counties under what used to be referred to as the farm-to-market roads. Sam Dickson, committee chairman, identified the three roads as Hefner Road, Lawrence Bridge Road, and the Shiloh Road extension. The fact that two of these roads are in the eastern part of Oconee appeals to fellow committee member, Dick Cottingham. Improving Shiloh and Lawrence Bridge roads, Cottingham believes, could help lessen some of the heavy traffic volumes on 123 between Oconee and Clemson. Twenty-five percent of the monies handled by the Oconee committee are obligated to be spent on state roadways.
