Thomas Michael “Mike” O’Shields

Seneca – Thomas Michael O’Shields, 71, husband of Vicki Chapman O’Shields, passed away on Friday, September 10th, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Mike was born in Georgia, and was the son of the late Perry O’Shields and Ruth Moore O’Shields.  Mike formerly worked in sales, was an avid fisherman, a proud veteran serving in both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army Special Forces, and was of the Baptist faith.

Mike became an active and valuable member of the Oconee County Chapter 41 of the Disabled American Veterans in 2014.  He had a huge, kind, loving heart and became a Chapter Service Officer, so that he could assist other veterans navigate the difficult process of Veterans benefits.  Mike was tireless in his effort to help fellow veterans.  He visited local area churches, restaurants and grocery stores to seek their assistance in outreach efforts to our local veterans.  He became the go to expert in communicating with the various federal agencies involved in the VA claims process and his local area of expertise and knowledge will be sorely missed.  Mike loved his brother veterans and he proved it through his continued actions.

In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by a son, Phillip Meece (Joni) of Pickens; daughter, Tuesday Hunt (Blake) of Seneca; uncle and aunt, Gary and Cheryl O’Shields of Jupiter, FL; and grandchildren, Kayden and Kylie Meece.

A memorial service will be held, 11:00 am, Monday, September 13th, 2021, at the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 am – 11:00 am prior to the service, at Sandifer Funeral Home.
